Jacksonville Fire and Rescue transported the victim to a local hospital, where he is listed in non-life-threatening condition. The victim is cooperating with the investigation.

According to the preliminary investigation, the victim was outside a residence when a dispute broke out between him and the suspect. During that dispute, the suspect shot the victim once with a handgun before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Officers were later able to locate the vehicle and took the suspect into custody.

“The suspect and victim were known to each other, and this is believed to be an isolated incident,” said Sgt. Scott with JSO’s Robbery and Violent Crimes Unit. “There is no further danger to the community.”

Crime Scene Detectives are processing the scene for evidence. At least one shell casing was recovered. Investigators said they have not located any nearby residences or businesses struck by gunfire, though a thorough canvass of the area is ongoing.

Detectives with the Robbery and Violent Crimes Unit are actively interviewing witnesses, canvassing for surveillance video and following up on investigative leads.

Investigators said the incident does not appear to be domestic-related and is not believed to be gang-related. While there appears to be a prior relationship between the suspect and the victim, the nature of that relationship is unknown at this time.
