A Jacksonville woman has pleaded guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft after using a stolen identity to obtain a job at Citibank — then exploiting her position to steal customer credit card information.

Lexus Lewis, 30, faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison for the wire fraud offense, along with a consecutive mandatory minimum of two years for the aggravated identity theft charge. No sentencing date has been set.

How the scheme unfolded

According to the plea agreement, Lewis obtained employment in Citibank’s fraud department in 2022 by using another person’s identity. From approximately November 2022 through April 2023, Lewis used her position to access customers’ credit card numbers.

Lewis then used the stolen card numbers to purchase items including jewelry and furniture, pay her own living expenses and travel costs, and pay other individuals’ rent in exchange for cash payments. When confronted by law enforcement, Lewis admitted to her conduct.

Lewis agreed to forfeit $463,619 — the proceeds of the charged criminal conduct.
