JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Three roommates were hospitalized, and one died after a domestic dispute erupted in gunfire on Jacksonville’s Westside early Wednesday morning, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Sgt. Johnny Cooke with JSO’s homicide unit said the incident began as an argument between a couple, and one of her roommates tried to intervene to calm the situation.

Around 1:49 a.m., the boyfriend, whose name has not been released, started shooting, hitting three of his girlfriend’s roommates: two men and one woman.

Cooke said everyone involved in the incident is in their early to mid-20s. They all live in a rooming house on McQuade Street, north of Beaver Street and east of McDuff Avenue.

One of the men shot died at the hospital. The extent of the injuries to the other man and the woman are not known, but they have been hospitalized, Cooke said.

The shooter’s girlfriend was not hurt, Cooke said.

The shooter was later found on West Beaver Street dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Cooke said.
