A judge sentenced McKenzie Phillip Storm Scott, 30, of Jacksonville, to three years and six months for bank fraud conspiracy and one year and six months for failure to appear — to be served consecutively. The court also ordered Scott to forfeit $21,097.49, the amount he obtained through the scheme.

Check theft scheme targeted U.S. mail
According to court documents, Scott and others conspired to defraud financial institutions by stealing checks from the U.S. mail. The group altered payee names and payment amounts to manufacture counterfeit checks, then deposited them into bank accounts belonging to accomplices before withdrawing as much of the fraudulent funds as possible in cash.
The intended loss tied to Scott’s conduct totaled approximately $526,000, though he personally obtained $21,097.49 in cash.
Failure to appear led to Las Vegas arrest
Scott was originally due to be sentenced in the bank fraud case on Feb. 7, 2025, but did not show up for the hearing. He was subsequently indicted for failure to appear.
Law enforcement eventually located Scott traveling in Las Vegas, Nevada, and arrested him on Dec. 2, 2025.
