CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A Clay County “super-speeder” was arrested after a deputy clocked him going 105 mph in a 60 mph zone with a child in the backseat, the sheriff’s office said.
The deputy talked to the driver about the danger he put himself, the child and others in.
Deputy: Did you not think if you were to get into a car accident at 105 miles an hour, do you think your kid would have been ok? Do you want to be around for that kid?
Driver: I do.
Deputy: Try to think a little bit my guy, even if that kid’s not in that car, you’re risking yourself and everybody around us.
The deputy also informed the driver that 90 percent of his tickets are for speeding.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said the driver was arrested for child neglect and charged under Florida’s Dangerous Excessive Speeding Law.
Officials are reminding drivers that under that law, drivers traveling 50mph or more over the posted speed limit, or 100mph or more in a way that endangers others or interferes with traffic can face criminal charges, arrested fines and jail time.
“The message is simple: slow down, drive responsibly and help keep our roads safe,” the sheriff’s office said.
