JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The woman killed in a quadruple shooting on Jacksonville’s Westside has been identified as Christine Dixon, 57.
Dixon was shot outside a home on Susie Street on Monday afternoon. Three other people were also hurt. Friends and family say she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“She’s not here, and she should be here because she spread love and kindness everywhere she went,” said Sean Penna, Dixon’s fiancé.
The two were set to marry in Hawaii and start their next chapter together. Penna said Dixon had endured years of hardship — including foster care, abandonment and physical abuse — and had been coming into her own.
“She just loved everybody. She put everybody before her,” Penna said. “I can’t imagine anybody could say anything negative about her. I mean, she lived on the West Side, so her being over there is not necessarily a suspicious thing.”
Penna said he is still searching for answers about what happened.
“I’m confused about what transpired in this area,” he said.
His mother, Terry Penna, said Dixon went to the home to visit friends she had known for years.
“She was at the wrong place at the wrong time. She went to see some of her friends over there. She’s known them for years,” Terry Penna said. “It’s a shame. She leaves behind children and grandchildren, and she’s way too young to die.”
A pattern of violence at the address
Records obtained by News4JAX show this was not the first time the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office had been called to the Susie Street address for a shooting. JSO responded to a prior shooting at the same address in April — just three months before Monday’s deadly incident.
In total, records show 25 calls for service to the home over the past two years. Many were related to drug activity or domestic disputes.
News4JAX spoke with several people who live near the scene. Due to fear of retaliation, many declined to speak on camera.
JSO has released limited details about what happened. A spokesperson said on the day of the shooting that it was unclear how all parties involved were connected.
The names of the three other victims have not been released. JSO has confirmed their ages as 31, 33, and 69 years old.
As the Dixon family continues to search for answers, they are also preparing to lay Christine to rest. The family is asking for the community’s help with funeral costs through a GoFundMe.
