The Surf Restaurant & Bar in Fernandina Beach closing in September

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – The Surf Restaurant & Bar in Fernandina Beach announced Wednesday that it’s closing its doors for good on September 20.

In a social media post, the restaurant said the reason for the decision is tied to heavy competition, soft consumer spending, cost inflation and its own performance.

The Surf has sat along Fletcher Avenue in Amelia Island since 1957. Future plans for the site haven’t been made clear; however, a proposal submitted to the city’s Technical Review Committee shows a site plan review for 13 home sites on the property.

Plans to close the adjacent motel haven’t been announced at this time.
