JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A city-wide street racing deployment on San Jose Boulevard ended with at least five arrests Saturday night, as Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers and Florida Highway Patrol units fanned out across the corridor after social media posts flagged the area as the site of a planned car meet, according to arrest reports.

The arrests took place around 10 p.m. on Aug. 15, 2026, along a stretch of San Jose Boulevard in Jacksonville. Charges ranged from street racing and stunt driving to operating a vehicle at 100 mph or more.

The deployment

Investigators say officers from JSO’s Patrol Support unit, working alongside FHP, had been monitoring a stretch of San Jose Boulevard after social media posts indicated a large car meet was planned there. Multiple units were positioned throughout the corridor throughout the evening, with at least one detective conducting covert surveillance in a nearby parking lot.

What unfolded over the next hour resulted in four separate traffic stops and five arrests.

First arrest: Suspected street racing toward I-295

Officers near San Jose Boulevard and Old River Road were the first to observe what they described as a street race in progress. A JSO officer reported seeing a black Mustang and a silver sedan racing side by side, passing him at a dangerously high rate of speed in a posted 45 mph zone.

“Both vehicles passed by me at a dangerously high rate of speed in a 45mph zone putting other drivers in danger,” the officer wrote in his statement.

He radioed a description of both vehicles to fellow officers in the area. Another officer, positioned near a nearby traffic light, spotted the vehicles heading north toward I-295 — including the silver sedan, which had a strobing or flashing tag light — and pulled the vehicle over. The car came to rest on I-295 South near Old St. Augustine Road.

The driver, a 20-year-old man from Saint Johns County, was placed under arrest. JSO says he told officers he had been at the car meet when the group decided to relocate to a Buc-ee’s in St. Johns County. He said he saw the black Mustang pull up next to him — and admitted to downshifting and going for it.

According to his arrest report, he told officers he doesn’t normally drive that way and said he had recently installed a louder aftermarket cat-back exhaust. A passenger in his vehicle corroborated his account, saying she wasn’t aware he was about to race.

He was charged with violating Florida’s street racing/stunt driving law, a first-degree misdemeanor, along with having a defective exhaust system and an improper tag light.

Second arrest: Corvette racing a motorcycle: JSO

Around the same time, a JSO officer working the deployment near San Jose Boulevard and Claire Lane observed a black older-model convertible Chevrolet Corvette racing side by side with a motorcycle.

“They raced for approximately ¼ mile from I-295 interchange and San Jose Blvd. to Claire Ln.,” the officer wrote. “I lost visual after the vehicles passed Claire Ln.”

The officer estimated both vehicles were traveling over 80 mph in a posted 45 mph zone, with engine noise clearly audible through his open patrol vehicle window. He noted the two vehicles were the only ones in the immediate area at the time, according to the report.

Officers moved to intercept both. One officer caught up to the Corvette at San Jose Boulevard and Hidden Stagecoach Road, where a 19-year-old man from St. Augustine was detained after stepping out of the 1992 Chevrolet Corvette. The driver denied racing and told officers he did not drive faster than 45 mph.

The Corvette driver was charged with one count of violating Florida’s street racing/stunt driving law, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Third arrest: JSO says Motorcycle rider admits to 85-90 mph

Two to three blocks from where the Corvette was stopped, another officer spotted a motorcycle matching the description still traveling southbound and conducted a traffic stop. The rider — a 20-year-old man from Jacksonville — was detained.

According to JSO, the rider told officers he had met the Corvette driver at a traffic light and was invited to follow along to the car meetup. He denied racing but acknowledged traveling alongside the Corvette.

“The suspect also admitted to being next to the Corvette doing ’85-90mph’ and revving his engine on a highway before San Jose, but still declined ever street racing,” the officer wrote.

Officers also noted the motorcycle’s license plate had an approximate 60-degree upward bend, making it “exceedingly difficult to read.”

The motorcycle rider faces two misdemeanor charges: violating Florida’s street racing/stunt driving law and having a motorcycle tag improperly affixed, concealed or obscured.

Fourth arrest: JSO say silver Mustang clocked near 100 mph

About 36 minutes after the first arrest, a second silver Mustang drew officers’ attention near the deployment zone, according to JSO.

A JSO officer stopped at the red light at San Jose Boulevard and Loretto Road observed a silver Ford Mustang turn south on San Jose Boulevard, toward where officers said a large vehicle gathering had assembled. The officer reported hearing the car’s loud engine and observed it accelerating rapidly in the 45 mph zone before pulling the vehicle over at 12058 San Jose Boulevard.

The driver, a 32-year-old Jacksonville man, was placed into handcuffs.

He was charged with operating a motor vehicle at 100 mph or more in a manner that threatened persons or property, a second-degree misdemeanor.

Fifth arrest: Covert surveillance leads to pickup truck stop

The final arrest came at approximately 10:43 p.m., following undercover surveillance in a nearby parking lot.

According to the arrest report, JSO detective had been watching the shopping plaza at 11701 San Jose Boulevard — flagged on social media as the meet location — when a lifted blue crew cab pickup truck with white underglow lights was observed in the parking lot before leaving and heading south on San Jose Boulevard.

“The vehicle was then observed traveling south on San Jose Blvd prior to being intercepted by a marked patrol unit,” the detective wrote.

Two JSO officers conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 20-year-old man from Saint Johns County, was arrested.

He was charged with violating Florida’s street racing/stunt driving law, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Citywide operation

The operation was part of a broader, city-wide street takeover enforcement effort, with JSO and FHP units working in tandem throughout the evening.
