LAKE CITY, Fla. – A GoFundMe was created for the family of a 16-year-old girl who died in a hit-and-run crash that also killed a woman and another teen in Lake City.

Lake City Police said the crash happened on Aug. 15 just before 9 p.m. at the busy intersection of West US Highway 90 and NW Centurion Court.

Officials said a F-150 was traveling west on US Highway 90 when it struck the passenger side of the Chrysler, which was turning at the intersection. Witnesses said the Ford was traveling at a high speed before the collision.

LCPD said the driver, identified as Jaron Carr, left the scene and he was located a short time later at the Gateway Inn, where he was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death. Officials said he was also driving with a suspended license and active warrants from Missouri and Brevard County.

A woman and another teen died in the crash: Bonnie Jean Welker, 44, of Lake City and Mae Waters, 15, of Lake City.

A family friend set up a GoFundMe for Mya’s mother, Jessica Puls, to help with the unexpected expenses.

“One of every mother’s greatest fears became a heartbreaking reality for my best friend when she lost her beautiful 16-year-old daughter in a tragic accident,” the GoFundMe reads.

A memorial was set up at the crash site, and friends were there on Friday leaving flowers.

The family is planning to hold a celebration of life on Friday at 7 p.m. at Lake DeSoto. Friends, family and community members are invited and everyone is encouraged to wear teal, Mya’s favorite color.
