FLORIDA – Walmart will begin adding tap-to-pay options at select U.S. stores and Sam’s Club locations Aug. 24, with plans to expand the service nationwide by the end of 2026, the company announced Friday.
The contactless payment option will allow customers and members to pay with eligible cards, phones and smartwatches, according to Walmart. The company’s announcement specifically says customers will be able to add eligible Walmart, Sam’s Club and OnePay cards to digital wallets.

Walmart did not identify the initial stores included in the rollout.
The retailer said tap-to-pay also is planned for its fuel stations by mid-2027. The service will be offered alongside existing payment methods, including cash, credit cards and Walmart Pay, which uses the Walmart app to complete transactions and provide access to purchases and receipts.
Sam’s Club members also can continue using Scan & Go, which allows them to scan and pay for items while shopping without using a traditional checkout line.
Walmart has historically promoted its QR code-based Walmart Pay instead of broader contactless payment options such as Apple Pay and Google Pay. The new announcement does not list individual payment platforms by name, but describes support for contactless cards, phones and smartwatches.
