Learn hands-only CPR for a safer summer

June 1-7 is National CPR and AED Awareness Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The First Coast American Heart Association is urging individuals and families across the region to participate in National CPR and AED Awareness Week, observed from June 1-7.

This initiative is designed to make summer safer by equipping everyone with lifesaving skills. Each year, over 350,000 cardiac arrests take place outside of hospitals in the United States, with approximately 90% resulting in death.

National CPR and AED Awareness Week focuses on meeting people at their current level of CPR knowledge, encouraging them to “Be Ready” to respond in a cardiac emergency.

The American Heart Association’s goal is to build a Nation of Lifesavers by ensuring that at least one person in every household is trained in Hands-Only CPR. By working together, communities have the potential to double cardiac arrest survival rates by the year 2030.
