Founded in 2020 by the University of Florida Hillel, the Spread Cream Cheese Not Hate® initiative is dedicated to combating antisemitism and all forms of hate. In its third consecutive year, the campaign proudly expands its reach to the greater Jacksonville community.
Coordinated around National Bagel Day, the initiative brings together Jewish and non-Jewish volunteers who invite community members to sign the Spread Cream Cheese Not Hate® Pledge. In exchange, participants receive a free bagel and cream cheese. While the bagel serves as a symbol, the deeper mission of the campaign is to inspire meaningful conversations and build a coalition rooted in understanding, respect, and tolerance.
Through the collaborative efforts of partners including Beth El The Beaches Synagogue, Christ Episcopal Church, Palms Presbyterian Church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, The Rhoda Martin Center, and JaxTHRIVE, the initiative has grown to include more than 60 trained Jewish and non-Jewish adult and teen volunteers dedicated to fostering dialogue and education around these vital issues.
The shared goal of all participants and partners is to create a more inclusive and welcoming community for everyone.
The Spread Cream Cheese Not Hate® initiative is supported through a grant from the Together Strong Community Fund.
