JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Episcopal School of Jacksonville Athletic Director Andy Kidd announced Sunday morning that Mark Brunell will be the school's next football coach and program director.
"Episcopal is excited to bring on a head coach who has excelled at the highest levels in football," Kidd said. "Mark has all of the characteristics we desired for the next leader of our program. He not only brings with him a wealth of football experience and knowledge, but he has the personal integrity and values we want exhibited by our coaches at Episcopal."
Following his high school days as a three-sport star (football, basketball, and baseball) at St. Joseph High School in California, Brunell led his Washington Huskies team to three Rose Bowls and was a member of their 1991 National Championship team. Brunell was then drafted by the Green Bay Packers and eventually settled with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he spent the majority of his NFL career.
As a professional, Brunell played in two AFC championship games, three pro bowls and was a Super Bowl Champion with the New Orleans Saints in 2009. Most recently, Brunell was an assistant coach for Providence in 2012 when the team advanced to the state playoffs.
"Episcopal is an ideal fit for me and my family and I am excited about this new chapter in my life," Brunell said. "I look forward to this opportunity to continue to build a first rate football program at Episcopal."
In addition to leading Episcopal's football program, Brunell will be the advanced athletics consultant in the school's advancement office.
