Jose Fernandez named as operator in fatal boat crash FWC completes investigation into crash that killed Marlins pitcher, 2 others No description found
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials have released their final report into the boating crash that killed late Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez.
Fernandez has been listed as the operator of the boat.
This seating diagram of the Sept. 25, 2016, boat crash that killed Jose Fernandez and two other men shows that the late Marlins pitcher was operating the boat. The ace, along with Emilio Macias and Eduardo Rivero, were killed in the Sept. 25, 2016, crash in Miami Beach.
Autopsies completed by the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's office determined blunt force trauma and drowning were the causes of death for all three victims.
Macias' and Rivero's families have since filed death lawsuits. Both seek $2 million.
