Local teens representing Team USA win gold, silver medals during 2022 Powerlifting Championships

Both attend/attended Bradford High School in Starke

BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. – Mahailya Reeves and Courtney Comer — two 18-year-olds from Bradford High School in Starke — took five Gold medals and three Silver medals home during the 2022 World Classic & Equipped Sub-Junior & Junior Powerlifting Championships in Istanbul, Turkey on September 04.

Mahailya Reeves made headlines earlier this year when the four-time state weightlifting champion kept breaking records. She broke her first record at 15, bench-pressing 365 pounds, and she continues to break her own record every year.

Mahailya Reeves, who just graduated from Bradford High School, won four gold medals — placing first overall for the 84 Kg+ class at the 2022 Junior World Championships.

“Mahailya went 7/9 totaling a new junior world record 594.5kg/1,310lb in the 84+kg junior class!” Powerlifting America said. She opened bench with a junior world record and finished the bench with the open world record! She collected 4 gold medals to go along with her two world records.

Mahailya Reeves and Courtney Comer took the Gold and Silver medals during the 2022 World Classic & Equipped Sub-Junior & Junior Powerlifting Championships in Turkey.

Reeves plans on attending Lake City Community College on a weightlifting scholarship.

Powerlifting America: Courtney, a senior at Bradford High School, won one gold and two silver medals placing second overall for the 76Kg class at the 2022 Sub-Junior World Championships! Courtney went 5/9 totaling 427.5kg/942lb finishing in second place in the 76kg sub-junior class. Courtney’s bench is so dominate, she brought home the gold medal with her opener. She’s also really good at squat and deadlift, winning silver medals in both. Courtney is a rising star in powerlifting and we can’t wait to see what she does next.
