JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – UNF is on the hunt for a new women’s basketball coach after parting ways with Darrick Gibbs on Thursday.

The Ospreys announced that Gibbs will not return as the program’s head coach after finishing his eighth season this week. UNF ended its season a disappointing 7-20.

“After thoughtful evaluation of the women’s basketball program, we have decided to make a change in leadership,” UNF athletic director Nick Morrow said in a release.

“We as a department are very appreciative of the commitment Coach Gibbs has shown towards the program over the past eight years. We will forever be thankful for his service to the development of all the student-athletes he coached.”

Gibbs was 95-138 in his UNF career. His best stretch was three consecutive seasons above .500 (15-14 in 2018-19; 16-15 in 2019-20; 14-11 in 2020-21). But the Ospreys slumped after that before bottoming out this season. The Ospreys had success under Gibbs, including the first WNBA draft pick in UNF history (Jazz Bond to the Dallas Wings in the third round last year).
