Camden County is on the search for a new head football coach after moving on from Travis Roland on Wednesday morning.
Roland went 13-8 in two seasons with the Wildcats, including 6-4 this year. Camden missed the playoffs for the first time since 2017.

“This was a difficult decision and one that was not made lightly,” said Camden County Schools Superintendent Tracolya Green said in a statement. “As a district, our goal is always to do what is best for our students, our schools, and our community.”
Roland’s departure opens up one of the biggest positions in southeast Georgia. The Wildcats became a Peach State powerhouse under the iconic Jeff Herron. He won 12 region titles and three state championships (2003, ’08, ’09) during his first stint there.
Herron left after the 2012 season and handed the reins to Welton Coffey. Coffey’s region title in 2013 was Camden’s last one. Herron returned in 2021 to replace Bob Sphire and had a tough first year back (4-7) before getting the Wildcats back in a groove. He led them to a 10-4 season and the state semifinals in 2023 before retiring. Roland was hired as his successor after coming off a Class 3A state championship at Daytona Beach Mainland in 2022.
“I am proud of what we accomplished! I am proud of the work we did! We signed 14 student-athletes to scholarships in the class of 2025, and we currently have 3 student-athletes prepared to sign early! We will without a doubt hit double digit players again this year. Wins and losses are the standard, but it is also my standard to put my young men in a position to have success beyond high school,” Roland posted on social media.
