Varsity 4 Super 6 girls soccer: Ponte Vedra strengthens grip on No. 1 spot after break

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The News4JAX Varsity 4 Super 6 girls soccer rankings will be published every Thursday during the regular season — except during Thanksgiving and Christmas week. Records are through Jan. 7 games.

Rank (previous), school, record, classification

1. (1) Ponte Vedra (10-0-2), Class 5A

Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Bishop Kenny, Chiles, Creekside, Fleming Island, Fletcher, Lake Highland Prep, Niceville, St. Johns Country Day.

Notable: The Sharks went 2-0 since our last Super 6, rolling past Fletcher (5-0) and Fleming Island (5-2) to stay perfect. They’re off until a Jan. 14 showdown at home against No. 2 Bartram Trail. Lily Morse leads the Sharks with 11 goals (7 assists), followed by Lulu Consunji (5 goals).

2. (2) Bartram Trail (11-1-3), Class 6A

Quality wins: Atlantic Coast, Beachside, Bishop Moore, Buchholz, Fletcher, Navarre, Spruce Creek.

Notable: The Bears went 2-0 since our last Super 6, romping past Tocoi Creek (5-0) and then topping a very good Bishop Kenny (2-0). Two very challenging games remain in the regular season, a trip to No. 1 Ponte Vedra (Jan. 14) and a rivalry clash with Creekside (Jan. 16). Junior F Layla Davis has 14 goals to lead Bartram. Kendall Underwood follows with six goals.

3. (3) Creekside (7-2-2), Class 7A

Quality wins: Bishop Kenny, Chiles, Fletcher, Gulf Breeze, Mandarin, Viera.

Notable: The Knights returned from the Christmas break with a solid 1-0 win over a very good Chiles team. They wrap up the regular season with a trip to rival Bartram Trail on Jan. 16.

4. (4) Bishop Kenny (10-3), Class 4A

Quality wins: Bolles, Christ’s Church, Episcopal, P.K. Yonge, Stanton, St. Johns Country Day.

Notable: The Crusaders went 1-1 since our last Super 6, losing to Bartram Trail (2-0) and handling Gainesville Buchholz (5-0). They visit a solid Clay team next on Jan. 14. Freshman Shea Donovan and Stella Jones have combined for 23 goals for Kenny.

5. (5) St. Johns Country Day (10-2-3), Class 1A

Quality wins: Bolles, Episcopal, Fleming Island, Oakleaf, Providence, P.K. Yonge, Wolfson.

Notable: The Spartans beat Bolles 3-0 in their first game back from the Christmas break. They’re 6-0-2 since their last loss. Victoria Sarka (16 goals, 10 assists), Madisyn Bauman (9 assists, 8 goals) and Calli Berang (7 goals, 8 assists) lead St. Johns offensively. Alana Mantello has racked up 16 assists.

6. (6) Beachside (9-2-2, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Fleming Island, Gulf Breeze, Mandarin, Matanzas, Nease, Tocoi Creek.

Notable: The Barracudas are unbeaten in their last seven games. They waxed Middleburg 6-0 in their first game since the Christmas break. They wrap up their regular season against Oakleaf on Jan. 16.
