Varsity 4 Super 6 flag football: Clay opens season in the top spot

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Varsity 4 News4JAX flag football Super 6 rankings will be published Wednesday through the end of the regular season with the exception of a week off for spring break. Records are through Feb. 17.

1. Clay (0-0, Class 2A)

Notable wins: N/A.

Glance: The Blue Devils went 14-1 last season, racking up 350 points and allowing just 48. Teaghan Moses is back and will enter the season healthy after passing for 21 TDs last year. Cora Parker and Tatum Waugh are also back, too.

2. Ponte Vedra (0-0, Class 3A)

Notable wins: N/A.

Glance: A great first season for the Sharks. They went 14-3 and return All-News4JAX selections Izzy Murray, Peyton Gruver and Julia Conroy. This is a chance to really take a jump for Ponte Vedra.

3. Fleming Island (0-0, Class 2A)

Notable wins: N/A.

Glance: The Golden Eagles lost a ton of talent to graduation and still went 12-4 and went to the playoffs. Fleming Island is going to be quite a bit better this year. Audrey Ellis, Emily Poucher and Daisy Fletcher are the playmakers who

Notable wins: N/A.

Glance: The Tornadoes went 14-3 last season and put up unbelievable numbers behind Nichelle Brown and Ar’Nayshia Griffin. They’ll be one of the area’s best teams again.

5. University Christian (1-0, Class 1A)

Notable wins: None.

Glance: The Christians went 10-1 in their first season, only losing to Bradford in the playoffs. QB Elissa Murdock had a big-time junior season, and she’ll lead UC this year. They rocked KIPP Bold City 31-0 in their opener.

6. White (0-0, Class 2A)

Notable wins: N/A.

Glance: The Commanders are always a Super 6 team. Two-time All-News4JAX selection Kyra Jackson is back to lead a Commanders squad that will challenge for top billing in the Gateway Conference.
