Rank, Previous, School, Record, Class
1. (3) Baker County (4-0, Class 4A)
Notable wins: Atlantic Coast, Baldwin.
Glance: The Wildcats jump to the top spot after beating a pair of Super 6 teams (previous No. 4 Baldwin, 6-1, and previous No. 1 Atlantic Coast, 3-2). They’re off until March 3 against a very good Bishop Snyder. Chloe Johnson is hitting .417 with a couple HRs. Baleigh Shields has continued her steady play that has spanned her career (.545, 8 R, HR).
2. (2) Episcopal (3-0, Class 2A)
Notable win: Bishop Snyder, Mandarin.
Glance: The Eagles handled a quality Bishop Snyder (6-0) and then trounced Bishop Kenny (12-2) since our last Super 6. Up next are Fernandina Beach (March 3) and Providence (March 5). Riley Valent is dealing in the circle (3-0, 0.37 ERA, 17 Ks in 19 IP).
3. (1) Atlantic Coast (3-1, Class 7A)
Notable wins: Fletcher.
Glance: The Stingrays bounced back from a 3-2 loss to Baker County with a 15-3 romp over Fletcher. Lily Maguire and Emma Cano are hitting .571 or better. No reason to ding the Stingrays too much for a tight loss to the Wildcats.
4. (NR) West Nassau (4-0, Class 3A)
Notable win: Yulee.
Glance: The Warriors haven’t played the most difficult schedule to start, but they have mashed teams. West Nassau plays perhaps the area’s most difficult schedule every year, and that starts with Atlantic Coast on March 2. Olivia Urbina is 8 for 11 at the plate (.727, 2 HR) with 10 RBI during the first four games.
5. (NR) Ponte Vedra (5-0, Class 5A)
Notable wins: Clay, Matanzas.
Glance: The Sharks have opened with a fury, including a 12-0 blowout of previous No. 5 Matanzas. Addison Siebenaler (.533), Aoife Weaver (.524) and Taylor Scribner (.500) are all out to excellent starts for the Sharks. Weaver also has three wins in the circle.
6. (4) Baldwin (2-2, Class 2A)
Notable wins: Yulee.
Glance: Tough decision here. The Indians have lost games to Trinity Catholic (7-0) and Baker County (6-1) since our last Super 6. They’ve had issues on offense. But I look at losses to two high quality, unbeaten teams a little more favorably than blowouts of inferior competition that allow teams to stay unbeaten. I think Baldwin will get the bats going and find out how to shore things up. They hang on at No. 6 ahead of Creekside, Middleburg and University Christian.
Dropped out
Creekside (4-1, Class 7A); Matanzas (3-1, Class 5A).
On the bubble
Bartram Trail (3-1, Class 6A); Bishop Snyder (3-1, Class 2A); Clay (2-3, Class 4A); Creekside (4-1, Class 7A); Fleming Island (3-0, Class 5A); Middleburg (2-1, Class 5A); Paxon (2-1, Class 4A); Tocoi Creek (3-1, Class 6A); University Christian (3-0, Class 2A); Yulee (0-2, Class 3A)
