The Episcopal girls lacrosse team battled for three quarters before coming up short in the Class 1A state semifinals on Friday in Vero Beach.

Lake Highland Prep pulled away late for a 14-8 win over the Eagles to end their season for the second consecutive year in the final four. Episcopal (16-4) dug itself out of a 4-0 hole in the opening period and sliced that deficit to 10-8 late.

The Highlanders slammed the door shut with a 4-0 blitz in the fourth to deny the Eagles. Reigning Varsity 4 All-News4JAX player of the year Brooke McCoy wrapped up her stellar career with three goals and an assist. Payten Cree added a couple, while Lily Melograna, Maggie Tight and Georgia Tuttle all scored once.
