Russell was one of 715 players scattered at 10 qualifiers around the country and Canada trying to earn one of 43 spots for the 126th U.S. Open. And Russell had a familiar face on his bag Monday, none other than Charlie Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods.

“It kept it so light,” Russell told the Associated Press. “It’s the first time I’ve had a buddy on the bag. I really like it, not talking much golf, just having a good time.”

The U.S. Open is June 18-21 at Shinnecock Hills in Southhampton, New York.
