Erik Avanier

Reporter

I'm an award-winning broadcast and multimedia journalist with nearly 20 years of experience. During my career, I have held titles that include: general assignment reporter, investigative reporter, junior political reporter, helicopter reporter, traffic reporter, news anchor, fill-in sports anchor, weekend weatherman and producer.

I'm starting 2017 as a reporter for News4Jax, having spent recent years as a one-man-band investigative reporter at WDEF, the CBS affiliate in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

A major requirement of my job is researching information and developing credible contacts; both of which are vital when it comes to breaking stories and staying ahead of the competition.

My philosophy is that everyone has a story to tell and it's my job to find that story and help them tell it.

My career has allowed me to live, work and travel all over the United States. I've met many interesting people and I've covered many interesting events.

This industry is constantly evolving so I have to evolve with it or get left behind. Just when I think I know all there is to know about broadcast journalism, I learn something new.
