Jaguars place veteran RB Chris Thompson on COVID-19 list
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Jacksonville Jaguars placed veteran running back Chris Thompson on the COVID-19 list Saturday. The Jaguars (1-5) activated running back Devine Ozigbo from the injured reserve/designated for return list. Jacksonville also utilized its two practice squad elevation spots on safety Doug Middleton and tight end Eric Saubert. The team ruled out safety Jarrod Wilson (hamstring) and tight end Tyler Eifert (neck) a day earlier. Middleton and Saubert will revert to the practice squad Monday without having to clear waivers.
Jaguars place RB Ozigbo on IR, sign Ogunbowale to fill spot
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Jacksonville Jaguars placed running back Devine Ozigbo on injured reserve with a left hamstring injury Thursday and signed former Tampa Bay running back Dare Ogunbowale to fill his roster spot. Ogunbowale could be in uniform for the team's opener Sunday against Indianapolis since Jacksonville has little depth at the position. The Jaguars waived Leonard Fournette last week, put Ryquell Armstead on the COVID-19 list for the second time in five weeks and then lost Ozigbo in practice Wednesday. That left them with undrafted rookie James Robinson, third-down back Chris Thompson and fullback Bruce Miller available. Another undrafted rookie running back, Nathan Cottrell, could be called up from the practice squad.
Jaguars Armstead out a while after return to COVID list
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Jaguars running back Ryquell Armstead is expected to miss significant time after landing on the COVID-19 list for the second time in five weeks. Coach Doug Marrone says Armstead will be sidelined ``a while.'I cant put a real timetable on it, but hell be out for a while, Marrone said Monday. Armstead missed most of training camp with a myriad of issues. He went on the COVID list in early August and missed 19 days. A fifth-round draft pick from Temple, Armstead ran 35 times for 108 yards as a rookie last year.
Jaguars roster analysis: Young, inexperienced, lacking stars
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The Jaguars set their roster at 53 after making cuts Saturday. One thing is clear, whether you call it a rebuild, blowing up the roster, or a youth movement, this is a very young team, one that needs stars to emerge in 2020. Add to that eight players who were rookies last year, and the Jaguars have 24 players out of 53 who have played one year in the NFL or fewer. Im a firm believer that if you have a young quarterback and in our case, we do have a young quarterback and Gardner Minshew. On a Monday, I would obviously go to the roster, and I would start with the secondary, Brunell said.
With Leonard Fournette gone, who steps up at RB for Jaguars?
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. No more Leonard Fournette means that quite a few players that Jaguars fans likely arent too familiar with are in line to replace him. A veteran, two second-year players and a pair of undrafted free agents are the players who are vying to replace Fournette. Chris is a blessing and Im happy as [heck] that hes here, said Jaguars running backs coach Terry Robiskie. The Jaguars picked him up after training camp last season. Now in his first training camp with the Jaguars, Ozigbo has gotten a chance to showcase his skills in Jay Grudens offense.
