As end approaches, Trump gets doses of flattery, finality

(AP Photo/Evan Vucci, File)NEW YORK – President Donald Trump’s administration is ending how it began, with over-the-top declarations of praise for the chief executive. Attorney General William Barr offered his resignation last Monday after weeks of tension with Trump brought about an early exit from his post. In the six weeks since his defeat by Biden, Trump has been increasingly disengaged from his job. But with Trump largely in hiding, it fell to Pence to make a public show of meeting with those distributing the vaccine.

Dangerously viral: How Trump, supporters spread false claims

Prominent Republicans, including Eric Trump, one of the president's sons, amplified the falsehoods on social media. Attorney General William Barr said Tuesday the Justice Department has not identified voter fraud that would change the presidential election. By then, however, many of those fringe websites and Trump associates were busy peddling new claims of voter fraud online. “There’s so much repetition of this narrative that there’s voter fraud,” Fazio said. “The amount of (voter fraud) he’s talking about is not going to make a difference anyway.”

False claims of voting fraud, pushed by Trump, thrive online

Trump and his supporters are pointing to those debunked claims on social media as reason to not accept that Democrat Joe Biden won the election. “These will probably persist for years or even decades unfortunately,” Kate Starbird, a University of Washington professor and online misinformation expert, said of the false claims about the U.S. election process. “This was a stolen election,” Trump tweeted on Sunday, the day after Biden became president-elect. In recent days, prominent Republicans and Trump allies have peddled social media claims that hundreds or thousands of dead people voted in key battleground states like Pennsylvania or Michigan. The social media platforms have tried to rein in the false claims.

False claims of Wisconsin voter fraud rely on wrong numbers

The image Eric Trump shared in his post claimed that there was a huge, inexplicable increase in voter turnout in Wisconsin this year. The image showed voter turnout percentages during presidential elections over the last 20 years in Wisconsin, with voter turnout hitting 89.25% this year. The Wisconsin Elections Commission calculates voter turnout based on the entire voting-age population, not just registered voters. Eric Trump slated to talk with NY investigators via video

NEW YORK – President Donald Trump’s son Eric is scheduled to speak via video on Monday with New York state investigators probing his family’s business practices, according to court papers filed Friday. Eric Trump has given no indication he will seek to delay the interview in light of his father's and stepmother's coronavirus diagnosis, which was announced early Friday, or for any other reasons. A message seeking comment was left with Eric Trump's lawyer. Eric Trump’s lawyers had sought to delay his interview with investigators until after the Nov. 3 presidential election, arguing that his “extreme travel schedule” on the campaign trail warranted a delay. President Trump's reelection campaign has canceled upcoming events that were to have featured Trump family members.

Judge: Eric Trump must give NY deposition before election

State Judge Arthur Engoron said Eric Trump, an executive at the family's Trump Organization, had no legal basis to postpone a subpoena seeking his deposition testimony under oath, concluding that neither the probe nor the court were “bound by the timelines of the national election." In a court filing last week, Eric Trump’s lawyers said he was willing to comply with the subpoena, but could do so only after the Nov. 3 election. Eric Trump’s lawyers had proposed four dates for him to testify, the earliest being Nov. 19. Eric Trump switched lawyers in mid-July, Futerfas said, contributing to the need for a delay. Eric Trump did not participate in Wednesday's hearing, which was held via Skype.

Lawyers: Trump son won't testify in NY probe before election

Eric Trump, the son of President Donald Trump, speaks at a campaign rally for his father, Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2020, in Saco, Maine. The lawyers argued Eric Trump’s “extreme travel schedule” related to his father’s reelection campaign prevented him from testifying sooner in state Attorney General Letitia James’ civil probe. James sought court intervention after Eric Trump's lawyers abruptly canceled an interview with investigators that had been planned for late July. Eric Trump, the third of Trump’s five children, visited a Trump campaign field office in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on Thursday and attended an event titled "Fighting for Maine Lobster with Eric Trump." Eric Trump’s lawyers have proposed four dates for him to testify, the earliest being Nov. 19, which they contend is just 30 days after others are scheduled to be deposed in the investigation.
