The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office got more than a dozen calls on Saturday after an apparent sonic boom from low-flying jets shocked residents and caused damage ranging from items falling off walls to broken glass.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Additional help is on the way to assist with COVID-19 vaccination efforts. Sixty additional airmen from Florida’s Air National Guard were activated for duty Monday. Since March, more than 2,300 Florida National Guard members have helped in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Twenty National Guard members have been stationed at the Regency Square Mall testing site since doses of the vaccine started being administered there. According to the 125th Fighter Wing, of the 60 airmen from the 125th Fighter Wing activated Monday, 40 will go out into communities and help with getting people signed up for vaccine appointments while the other 20 will replace the guardsmen currently at the Regency Square Mall.

The City of Jacksonville is honoring the 125th Fighter Wing on Monday, 1-25, and the airmen of the Florida Air National Guard are beaming with pride and roaring with thunder. The 125th Fighter Wing is known as the Home of the Thunder and that’s the sound you can expect. They didn’t really expect to have Jacksonville Mayor Curry proclaim Monday as 125th Fighter Wing Day honoring all the airmen assigned to 25 units and led from Jacksonville. Chief Beckom is the top enlisted member of the fighter wing and one of the top ambassadors. What would eventually be known as the 125th Fighter Wing was federally recognized in 1947 stationed at Jacksonville’s Imeson Field.

Colonel Jonathan Kassebaum, with the Florida Air National Guard, waited months to regain his wings after a terrifying close call. It feels normal.In October, Kassebaum nearly lost his life while doing renovations on his familys home in Mandarin. He had no idea the pool water was electrically charged due to a tree limb falling and hitting a junction box. Construction workers saw Kassebaum and pulled him out. All in all it was about 12 to 13 minutes, Kassebaum said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - More than 200 members from the Florida Air National Guard's 125th Fighter Wing were welcomed home Monday during a homecoming ceremony. The group of men and women were on deployment in Southwest Asia supporting Operation Spartan Shield. The 125th Fighter Wing has been part of the Northeast Florida community since 1947, andcurrently has more than 1,600 Airmen assigned to 23 units. Flying the F-15 Eagle fighter jet, the Wing provides air superiority, space superiority, and agile combat support to combatant commanders worldwide.
