Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp is extending the suspension of the state's motor fuel tax for another month to help families offset the cost of holiday spending.

The city of Jacksonville is looking to put a pause on a gas tax implemented earlier this year to help the growing financial strain many continue to feel at the pumps.

With the local gas tax set to double in Jacksonville next month, there is a push by one City Council member to stop it.

Jacksonville City Council approved amendments to a $1 billion infrastructure plan to include $132 million for the Emerald Trail and approved setting aside $250 million in gas tax spending for direct contracting to Jacksonville Small and Emerging Businesses -- a city program -- and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise firms -- a JTA program.

Jacksonville city council members are holding Town Hall meetings to get input from the community on the proposed 6-cent local gas tax increase.
