Following his time in the White House, he became known for his work as an ABC News correspondent, in particular for his stories on the American hostage crisis in Iran and the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. He also served in the U.S. Senate in 1964 as a vacancy appointment and was campaign manager for the Robert F. Kennedy presidential campaign.
