Late last year, a prominent Northeast Florida businessman and well-known political donor Kent Stermon was found dead in his truck at the Mayport Post Office in Atlantic Beach. No foul play is suspected.

A social media disagreement about Kent Stermon between Mayor Lenny Curry and local attorney John Phillips happened two days before Stermon's death. Now the News4JAX I-TEAM is hearing from both sides.

The News4Jax I-TEAM is looking into the political contributions of businessman and GOP donor Kent Stermon who died in an apparent suicide in Atlantic Beach last week.

The News4JAX I-TEAM has been asking questions as to why a prominent political donor had badge access to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office headquarters and multiple other locations for five years.

Kent Stermon, who was not employed by the Sheriff’s Office, was given an access card to JSO headquarters for the past five years -- at the same time, he was donating thousands to GOP candidates, including former Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams.

According to multiple sources, Kent Stermon was found dead in his car at the Mayport Post Office in Atlantic Beach on Thursday night. He was 50 years old.
