Hobbs and Varner work with several different groups throughout Jacksonville that promote prevention and intervention in ending gun violence. Varner said the people who killed his son, ended up victims of gun violence themselves.

Families of Maurice Hobbs and DJ Broadus helped organize and attended the gathering. She said it’s important to come together to realize everyone in the community has a responsibility to bring peace to their neighborhoods. “There should be a murder charge, not a tampering with evidence charge,” Dominic Broadus said. Dominic Broadus is asking supporters to come to sentencing in Baker County that starts at 9 a.m. Monday.
