Studies find racism causes psychological harm

ORLANDO, Fla. – Racism is a problem that’s at the forefront of Americans' minds lately. Scores of studies found that racism causes many types of psychological harm. Other research has suggested victims of racism reported a lower quality of life, higher levels of stress, and poorer overall health. In a recent study, scientists looked at 40 Mexican-American students. Just another way racism can affect the body in a negative way.

Expert explains how to talk to your kids about racism

Whether its a peaceful protest or violence kids may have questions about what they see and hear. Emily Mudd, PhD, a child psychologist at Cleveland Clinic Childrens, recommends asking children what theyve seen and letting them lead the conversation. She adds that its important to teach children to be kind and respectful to all people and empower them to stand up for equality. So, we need to teach white children to not only be allies, but to be activists, said Dr. Mudd. Including children in diverse activities and groups while theyre young helps decrease prejudice too.

Netflix‘13th’Directed by Ava DuVernay (she’ll come up again in this list), the documentary shows you how America changed after the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery, but also kickstarted the prison boom in America. ‘Moonlight’This Oscar-winning picture tells the story of a young black gay man living in Miami. chronicles the Central Park Five, a group of young black teenagers who were wrongfully convicted of a crime they didn’t commit. The documentary tells the story of the days of protests, unrest and riots that followed. It’s a great film that shows how two different groups of people can react to fatal police shootings.

Here’s how you can support the fight against racial injustice without leaving your home

Color of Change is the largest online racial injustice organization. It’s a great place to donate to help fight racial injustices. If there is any organization that has been fighting for social justice and change for years and years, it’s the ACLU. Not only does it fight for racial justice, it fights for women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights and so much more. This is pretty simple: The petition is asking for justice for George Floyd’s death.

Black rag dolls pulled from shelves, called racist

One Dollar Zone said it immediately pulled controversial black rag dolls from store shelves after customers voiced concerns about them. (Credit: From Facebook/assemblywoman angela v. mcknight)(CNN) - Black rag dolls that instruct someone to abuse them were removed from the shelves of multiple One Dollar Zone stores after they drew criticism for being racist. New Jersey legislator Angela McKnight said she visited a One Dollar Zone store in Bayonne and found the toy "offensive and disturbing on so many levels." One Dollar Zone President Ricky Shah said the company immediately pulled the dolls from store shelves after customers voiced concerns about them. One Dollar Zone operates about 30 stores in the Northeast, including in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Its the doll that has received so much backlash, it was reportedly pulled from the shelves. The Feel Better Dolls have been yanked from stores around New Jersey after customers and politicians began complaining they were racist. Just grab it firmly by the legs and find a wall to slam the doll and as you whack the "feel good doll" do not forget to yell "I feel good. I feel good," the directions reportedly read. To have a product depict or teach children that it is OK to hit another child, regardless of race, in order to feel good is sick, McKnight wrote.
