Coronavirus: Jacksonville nurse serving on hospital ship in New York
A nurse manager who helps care for transplant patients at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville answered the militaryโs call for health care help in New York. Lynn Houston, a Jacksonville native and preoperative nurse in the Navy Reserve, applied for a spot aboard the USNS Comfort, which is docked in New York City in an effort to relieve the cityโs hospitals amid the coronavirus pandemic. She was selected to help in the hospital shipโs operating room and had three days to pack up. The Comfort is providing treatment to trauma, emergency and urgent care patients as part of the effort to help out New York Cityโs health care system. The hospital ship was activated in response to the coronavirus pandemic, which has resulted in over 10,000 deaths and 200,000 cases in New York.
