WALB-TV reported the Meigs City Council voted 3-2 to stop providing police services as of Sept. 24. The City Council has struggled to maintain a quorum in recent months. In an August meeting regarding a recently terminated officer, three council members left before a vote could be taken. A June interview between a police chief candidate and the council ended when Mango arrived and refused to leave.

WALB-TV reports 26-year-old Karen Lashun Harrison was charged with felony murder, cruelty to children and simple battery. Moultrie Police Lt. Freddie Williams says Harrison got into a fight Friday with a woman at a beauty supply store and dropped the baby onto the pavement. Harrison told police the baby was injured when he fell from family friend Carneata Clarks arms. The other woman involved in the fight hasnt been charged.

WALB-TV reported state inspectors discovered the roach infestation at the Dollar General in Douglas after responding to a customers complaint. Agriculture department spokeswoman Julie McPeak says investigators confirmed the roach problem and store managers were ordered to throw out any food or drinks that might have been affected. The store is prohibited from selling food until it passes a follow-up inspection. WALB-TV reports residents of the Country Club Estates neighborhood in Albany were relieved after the city commission struck down the proposed project Wednesday. Jasmine Williams said the proposed 25-acre solar farm would have been located just a few steps from her home. She worried increased traffic in the area during construction would have disturbed her quiet neighborhood.Other residents had told commissioners they were concerned a solar farm would disrupt surrounding wildlife. Some suggested relocating the project to a less populated area of Albany.
