Storm risk eases as tropical depression drifts west

Tropical Depression Two is slowly moving across the Gulf. As of 8:00 a.m. As of 11 a.m. Monday, the center of Tropical Depression Two was about 120 miles south of Panama City, Florida.

Jacksonville will experience another classic midsummer day across Northeast Florida, beginning with a mix of sunshine and clouds before temperatures quickly climb through the morning.

We will see a partly to mostly cloudy sky on Monday with temperatures in the low to mid 90s. Showers and storms will remain in the forecast on Monday due to the wind flow around Tropical Depression Two in the Gulf.

Tropical Depression Two developed this morning in the Gulf. As of 2:00 p.m. Sunday, the center of Tropical Depression Two was about 170 miles south-southeast of Panama City, Florida.

A disorganized weather system over the eastern Gulf is worth keeping an eye on — and if you live along Florida’s west coast or in the Panhandle, it’s worth keeping a close eye.

Heat index values are expected to peak in the 100 to 107 degree range again today. Staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activity during peak heat hours is strongly recommended.

Rainfall totals could be locally heavy in parts of northeast Florida

Be prepared for a hot, stormy stretch of weather heading into the weekend, with heavy rainfall and localized flooding among the top concerns.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two separate areas of tropical activity — one in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean and another closer to home in the Gulf — but neither is expected to pose a significant threat in the near term.
