FHP investigating after man killed along US 301 near Maxville

Troopers believe man was hit by blue vehicle that left scene

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One southbound lane of U.S. 301, about 2 miles south of Interstate 10, in the Maxville area was closed Tuesday afternoon as the Florida Highway Patrol investigated the death of a man found along the side of the road.

FHP Sgt. Dylan Bryan said troopers believe the victim was killed in a hit-and-run. He said the man had no identification, but they were working to identify him.

According to the Highway Patrol report, the man was on the shoulder of U.S. 301, near Fiftone Road, when he was struck by an unknown blue vehicle, possibly a heavy truck, that was traveling south on U.S. 301.

Troopers said the driver did not stop after the crash, which they believe may have happened Tuesday morning.

Later in the day, Sky4 aerials showed troopers investigating a few hundred feet along the side of the highway, looking for evidence.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Highway Patrol at *FHP. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
