JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Edgewood Avenue West was shut down in both directions Monday evening near the intersection of Iris Boulevard due to a “suspicious package,” according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Lt. Paris, with the Sheriff’s Office, said police were called to the scene around 5:30 p.m. He said the package, which was found alongside the road, was believed to contain a flashbang.

JSO technicians took the device to another location where it was rendered safe.

The road was reopened to traffic around 7 p.m.
