The man’s vehicle rolled back and hit the woman’s vehicle, causing the pair to get out of their respective cars to exchange information in the paved inside emergency lane, FHP said.

According to the crash report, that’s when a 20-year-old man from St. Augustine, who didn’t see the traffic stopped, tried to brake and steer around the cars ahead of him, veering into the inside emergency lane, where he hit both the man and the woman.

The woman died at the scene, and the man was taken to Memorial Hospital with critical injuries, the report said.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries, according to the report.
