Orionid meteor shower peaks this weekend

Clearing skies make for good viewing

Cloudy skies will break up after midnight Friday for better viewing a few hours before dawn.

The annual Orionid meteor shower peaks Friday night into Saturday morning October 21 when you could see from 10 to 20 meteors per hour.

The debris from Halley’s Comet entering the Earth’s atmosphere are the meteors that will light up the sky. The best time to watch will be after the moon sets just before 11:30 pm through Dawn.

It is still possible to see a display Sunday morning but some high clouds may be on the increase across northeast Florida.

Look south toward the Orionid radiant for the best views and find a comfortable spot and blanket as temps will dip into the low 60s and 50s by morning.
