Soaking rain hits Palm Coast and Jacksonville area: Flood advisory in effect as storms move inland

The Weather Authority tracks ongoing showers, thunderstorms and a humid forecast for the weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It’s a soggy morning for anybody driving along I-95 through Palm Coast or Jacksonville.

We’re tracking intense downpours with radar showing heavy rain moving in off the Atlantic.

The Weather Authority has confirmed that this system is especially impacting the Palm Coast area, spreading westward and intensifying as it pushes inland.

According to Exact Track 4D radar, the rain has been making its way over I-95 and continues to get heavier.

An aerial flood advisory remains in effect for several areas, including spots just north of World Golf Village, east of Jacksonville, and over Palm Coast.

These conditions are creating periods of poor visibility and tricky commutes, especially along the main highways.

Showers and storms continue

As of the latest radar scan, wet weather isn’t just sticking to Palm Coast.

Showers are moving in and out along Mayport and the nearby beaches, making it a damp and breezy start for anyone headed outside.

While lightning has backed off over land, more could develop later as storms from offshore push inland.

These showers aren’t limited to the coast. Exact Track 4D shows the rain is poised to keep streaming in from the Atlantic, becoming heavier around 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and heading further inland as the morning goes on.

There’s a good chance of more intense downpours and possibly thunderstorms as the day heats up, especially into the early afternoon.

While severe weather isn’t guaranteed, the potential for wind, lightning and heavy rain is expected to go up as we approach 1 p.m.

Looking ahead

For those wondering if this streak of wet weather will end soon, here’s what’s on tap.

The 7-day forecast shows highs remaining in the 80s through Saturday, warming to 90 degrees by Sunday.

While rain chances linger for the start of the new week, they are expected to decrease a bit on Monday.

By then, expect temperatures to rebound into the mid-90s, bringing back the heat but still leaving room for occasional showers and storms.

It’s clear from The Weather Authority’s radar and forecast that umbrellas and rain jackets will continue to come in handy for a few more days.
