Fire danger alert in effect for Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia

Red Flag Warning begins at noon

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for portions of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia for this afternoon. Gusty westerly winds combined with severe to extreme drought conditions and critical relative humidity values could bring the potential to spread ongoing or new wildfires through this afternoon into the early evening hours.

Plenty of sunshine will warm the region to the lower 60s, right around the average for this time of year. Winds will remain gusty throughout the day from the west to east, possibly blowing wildfire smoke into Duval County from Baker.

Fire danger remains high over the next several days as there isn’t any precipitation in the forecast until late next week.
