Winter has returned with dangerously high winds, dry conditions in Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia

Expanded Red Flag

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – While the sun will shine under blue skies, the temperatures will struggle to get out of the upper 40s in Southeast Georgia and lower 50s in Northeast Florida on Monday. Windy conditions continue from the northwest at 15-20 mph with gusts of 25-30 mph, making it feel even cooler than the thermometer.

Monday alerts:

UPDATE: Red Flag Warning expanded into Southeast Georgia counties, all Northeast Florida counties and extended: 1 p.m.-7 p.m. = critically low relative humidity, strong northwesterly winds, and continued extreme drought

Super dry air will keep the relative humidity in the 20-30% range, allowing a higher risk of fire potential.

Winds will decrease a bit as temperatures drop Monday night into Tuesday. Widespread frost is likely. Inland hard freeze is possible, while a light freeze could reach the beaches.

Tuesday alerts:

Freeze Warning Tuesday: Midnight-9 a.m. = temp as low as 26 degrees, hard freeze in some locations

Cold Weather Advisory Tuesday: 2 a.m.-9 a.m. = wind chills in the low 20s

Highs on Tuesday will be a bit warmer and less windy.
