JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – We are preparing for the next line of storms approaching from the northwest and moving southeast.
This line -- which has prompted a Weather Authority Alert Day -- is producing thunderstorms, tornado watches, and warnings.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued briefly for our Southeast Georgia counties with the threat of wind over 70 mph and hail. The warning expired at 11:44 a.m.
A separate Severe Thunderstorm Warning was later issued for Duval and Clay counties, which has since expired.
Tornado Watches have been issued until 8 p.m. for Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. Be prepared and know your emergency plans before severe weather impacts your area.
Main threat: Winds with gusts over 50 mph, isolated tornados and hail (Thunderstorm Warning criteria), heavy downpours, and frequent lightning
Timing: Southeast Georgia 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Northeast Florida, including portions of SE GA 11 a.m.-3 p.m., southern zones late afternoon
Meanwhile, above-normal temperatures in the low 80s will precede the squall line.
Additionally, a Freeze Watch might be triggered during this time for southeast Georgia as the cold air sinks in behind the frontal system.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the 30s for inland Southeast Georgia, 40s out to the beaches. Wind chill will also be a concern for Tuesday morning.
