Near Record Highs Expected Amid Ongoing Drought Conditions

Visibility drops and air quality concerns rise near ongoing wildfires

The smoky haze has moved inland and north, across southeast Georgia as the wind veers from the southeast. This means the smoke is moving north, northwest. Light to calm wind this evening will allow the smoke to spread with a Dense Smoke Advisory extended through Friday at noon for Clinch and Echols counties in southeast Georgia.

Mainly clear skies with light wind and smoke tonight. The shifting breeze tomorrow will spread the smoke toward I-95 and the beaches through around 10 a.m. As the southeasterly breeze picks up, the smoke will return to inland areas and across southeast Georgia through the evening.

The forecast continues warm and mainly dry through Saturday. There is increasing confidence for a few showers and isolated storms on Sunday.

Near record highs are expected this weekend with the Exceptional and Extreme Drought area-wide.

Tonight: Mostly clear with light to calm wind. Smoke could reduce visibility near ongoing fires.

Friday: Smoke could cause visibility issues overnight and early Friday morning. A smoky haze at times as the wind shifts through the day. Becoming partly cloudy and warm. Morning lows in the 50s inland, 60s along the beaches. Afternoon highs in the 80s inland, 70s along the beaches. Wind: SW/SE 5-15 mph.

Saturday - Sunday: The warming trend continues, with near-record highs. Morning lows in the 50s inland, 60s along the beaches. Afternoon highs in the 80s to low 90s inland, 70s along the beaches. Wind: SW 5-10 mph Saturday, SE 5-10 mph on Sunday. Slight chance of showers and isolated storms on Sunday, 30-40 percent.

Looking ahead: The onshore winds on Monday could also send a few showers toward the beaches and I-95 early next week.
