Heat for the weekend with a few pop up showers and storms...

. (.)

Dangerous heat is settling in across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia as a strong ridge of high pressure keeps temperatures climbing through the weekend. Afternoon highs will reach the low to mid 90s, but when you factor in the tropical humidity, it’ll feel more like 105° to 110°, especially from 2 to 6 p.m. Heat illness can develop quickly, so make sure you’re staying hydrated, taking frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and never leaving children or pets in a parked vehicle.

A few isolated to scattered sea breeze showers and thunderstorms will develop each afternoon, mainly after 2 p.m. Coverage stays fairly limited through the weekend, so many neighborhoods will remain dry while others pick up a quick downpour and a few lightning strikes. By Monday, moisture increases enough for more widespread afternoon storms, helping knock temperatures back a bit early next week, with highs returning to the upper 80s by Tuesday and Wednesday.

The biggest weather story through the weekend isn’t the rain—it’s the prolonged stretch of dangerous heat, so if you have outdoor plans, try to get them done early in the day before the worst of the heat arrives.
