JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As of Dec. 7, there have been 28 police-involved shootings in Jacksonville in 2008. Fourteen of those resulted in a death.
- Dec. 6: One of three teenagers accused of pulling guns on an assistant police chief and his wife as they arrived home about 11:40 p.m. was shot in the leg. Daniel Sanchez, 16, recovered and was charged with armed robbery. [ Full Story ]
- Nov. 24: Two suspects being pursued about 12:30 a.m. after two Southside armed robberies bailed out of a car after it hit a tree in the 1900 block of Cortez Road. A 17-year-old was fired upon and taken into custody unhurt. Cedrick Smith, 20, was shot and killed as he ran from officers in a nearby neighborhood. Police said Smith was unarmed, but had used a realistic-looking BB gun during the robberies. [Full Story]
- Nov. 24: Police exchange gunfire with 20-year-old Luiz Vizcarrundo died on Whispering Pines Drive, just off Collins Road, after exchanging gunfire with officers shot while running from a convenience-store robbery. Vizcarrundo died at the scene. [Full Story]
- Nov. 6: Breon Pittman, 19, was shot and killed at 301 Caravan Circle after two officers responding to a call of shots fired stopped and searched him. A pat-down revealed a gun, but as Pittman was being handcuffed, he broke away and ran. [Full Story]
- Oct. 27: Jerrick Hall, 19, shot while running from a vacant house at 743 Owen Avenue. Officers on a burglary call found several young men in the house. Hall was not armed. [Full Story]
- Oct. 26: Dutch Stafford, 17, was shot running from a pickup truck carjacked from a man at a Westside McDonald's restaurand. [Full Story]
- Oct. 23: Double slaying suspect Alonzo Jones, 29, was shot in the leg while running from police at the Evergreen Cemetery on North Main Street. [Full Story]
- Oct. 19: Victoria Roberts, 21, shot in the shoulder by officers in the parking lot of In Cahoots, 711 West Edison Avenue. She'd knocked down several pedestrians with her car and was speeding through the lot, ignoring commands to stop. [Full Story]
- Oct. 8: Carjacking suspect Tyron Taylor shot by Oficer Adam Hiers on Bark Street. Police were following the stolen car when four teens got out and ran. [Full Story]
- Sept. 19: Chester Elliot shot and killed in exchange of gunfire with Officer C.A. Sames at West 26th and Barnett streets. Sames was wounded in the shoulder and hospitalized overnight. [Full Story]
- Aug. 20: Tony Paul, 44, wanted in a previous shooting, shot when he raised a gun in the direction of an officer in foot pursuit. [Full Story]
- Aug. 2: Corea Johnson Jr., 19, shot by an off-duty officer. Johnson is accused of armed robbery at a Northside restaurant from which he was recently fired. [Full Story]
- July 29: Brian Brock, 29, shot and killed running from a detective in Mayport. Brock was a suspect in the slaying of Tracey Sarman. [Full Story]
- July 24: Jerry McTyre, 15, shot by an officer who was struck by a vehicle carrying three people fleeing a home-invasion robbery at a Beach Boulevard apartment. McTyre survived. [Full Story]
- July 20: Darry Waters, 38, was shot and killed after ramming a stolen cruiser into other police cars, then pulling a "Rambo-style" knife on an officer. Police believe Waters, an ex-con from Tennessee, fatally stabbed a man that morning at the Hilltop Village Apartments on West 45th Street. [Full Story]
- July 5: Off-duty officers investigating gunfire outside the Plush nightclub on University Boulevard shoot Caleif Bush, 18, and Cariel Britt, 21. They both survive. [Full Story]
- June 23: Artavious Debose, 22, shot and killed in Murray Hill. He was one of four suspects in the armed robbery of a Game Stop on 103rd Street. [Full Story]
- June 23: James Imbrani, 50, died after being shot on St. Augustine Road by officers pursuing him following a bank robbery. [Full Story]
- April 1: Latoya Grier, 22, shot and killed near the Washington Heights Apartments after firing at officers following a vehicle chase. [Full Story]
- March 25: Sierra White, 30, was shot and killed after coming at officers with steak knives. Police were called by a mental health worker checking on the man's welfare. [Full Story]
- March 18: Anthony D'Atri, 28, shot and killed by a SWAT officer at his sister's home in Arlington. D'Atri barricaded himself in that house after he fired shots during a domestic dispute in Yulee earlier in the day. [Full Story]
- March 7: Kenneth Ford was shot after he fired shots at officers who went there to arrest him on outstanding warrants for car theft and drugs. He was treated for the gunshot, then booked into jail. [Full Story]
- Feb. 21: Jamal Williams, 22, was shot several times after pointing a gun at a police officer investing drug dealing on the Eastside. [Full Story]
- Feb. 21: Kenneth Marion, 17, was shot and killed by an officer chasing four suspects in the armed robbery of a Hendricks Avenue convenience store. [Full Story]
- Feb. 8: Addar Kennedy, 32, was shot and killed after firing shots at undercover officers in Mayport investigating complaints of auto burglaries and drug dealing. [Full Story]
- Jan. 31: Nicholas Kelco, 20, shot in St. Johns County after hitting an off-duty JSO officer in the head with a pipe. Kelso leaves the scene in a car with others, but is arrested after that car crashes in Mandarin. [Full Story]
- Jan. 26: Joel Abner, 18, killed in a shootout with an off-duty officer who chased Abner after a shoplifting incident in Regency Square Mall. [Full Story]
