JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 19-year-old man was found guilty Friday afternoon on two counts of sexual battery.
In June, Vernord Lavon Bright III drugged a 17-year-old girl and engaged in sex with her while she was unconscious, according to state attorneys.
As the teen girl woke up, she found Bright on top of her engaging in a sex act. State attorneys said Bright then held her at gunpoint while he attacked her.
The girl managed to run away from Bright when he reached for the gun again. Authorities said she then ran to a stranger's home, where she called authorities.
Bright faces life in prison. He will be sentenced the week of Dec. 15, state attorneys said.
