Driver was not speeding, distracted or impaired

No description found

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In a report last week about a careless driving citation for 17-year-old Charles Callaghan, News4Jax reported that he pleaded no contest to the non-criminal traffic citation in a fatal crash on JTB and adjudication on the ticket was withheld.

The official Florida Highway Patrol accident report said Callaghan was not texting, not on the phone, not speeding and not impaired at the time of the accident.

Our story said the FHP concluded that Callaghan was "not impaired, though he admitted to having one drink." This gave the impression he had consumed an alcoholic drink. The FHP report, however, noted that Callaghan stopped at Starbucks and bought a non-alcoholic drink before the accident.

News4jax regrets the error.
