Police ID man shot, killed inside car in Brentwood

2-3 men walk up, fire shots into parked vehicle, JSO says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A young man in a car was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in the city's Brentwood neighborhood, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. 

Officers responded about 4 p.m. to the shooting at North Pearl and West 24th streets.

Eldridge A. Beauford, 23, was in a parked car when two or three men walked up and fired multiple shots into the vehicle, hitting the man multiple times, JSO Sgt. Chuck Ford said.

Beauford died at the scene, police said.

Ford said the gunmen were picked up by a sedan, which then took off. 

Investigators have not been able to confirm if the deadly shooting was gang-related.

According to News4Jax records, this was the city's 72nd homicide this year and the sixth homicide this month. 

Detectives continue to go over evidence and statements from witnesses.
