Police release name of man killed in shooting near Englewood club

JSO: Officers received calls about fighting before shooting

JACKSONVILLE, FL – A 19-year-old man shot and killed outside Vibe Sportsbar & Club on Philips Highway in the Englewood neighborhood early Thanksgiving morning has been identified, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said they found the man, later identified as Jarvaris Platts, with a gunshot wound to the body, around 1:12 a.m. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

Officers were already on the scene when the shooting occurred because JSO had received calls about fighting inside the club and outside in the parking lot before the shooting, according to police.

Platts was with his friends at the time of the shooting, and it's unclear if they were involved in the fights, according to JSO.

Police did not have a description of the shooter, but said the person was in a car traveling southbound on Philips Highway.

Anyone with information is asked to call the JSO non-emergency line at 904-630-0500 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
