Police ID woman taken to UF Health with fatal gunshot wound

Woman driven to hospital by person who is being questioned, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 23-year-old woman died at UF Health hospital Thursday afternoon after she was driven there with a gunshot wound, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said the woman, 23-year-old Tearra Garrett, was driven to the hospital in a maroon car by someone who was taken in for questioning.

Police said they did not know when or where the woman was shot, and the relationship between the woman and the driver is not clear.

They were called to UF Health about 2:45 p.m.

The hospital was surrounded by crime scene tape to keep people away as investigators looked at the car, which pulled up to the front door of the hospital, police said.
